Introduction to The Shanghai Information Resources Network was originally called Shanghai Area Information Resources Network. 19 library and information institutes in public services, scientific research, colleges & universities and information science held a summit in 1994. The directors of these institutes participated in the meeting. The meeting issued 3 important documents, one of which was "Shanghai Area Information Resources Network Working Rules." On May 13, 1999, the meeting on the "Shanghai Information Resources Network" was held at the Shanghai City Hall. The meeting proposed the "Shanghai Information Resources Network Project." It asked for the establishment of Internet connections between public, academic and scientific research library systems. The meeting also decided three plans, including 1) Information Platform, 2) Coordination of Document Acquisitions and 3) Information Service and Personnel Training Program." The office of the "Shanghai Information Resources Network" is located at the Coordination Management Division, Shanghai Library. |
